Cocoon Club | Party with style and view in the Absa Centre

As you arrive at the entrance of the Absa Centre on the St George Mall side, you are welcomed by stylishly dressed, young ladies and accompanied to the 31st floor (in the elevator, of course). The Absa Centre is a tall, typical-looking business centre in the CBD of Cape Town; nothing out of the ordinary. Or so you’d think! As you exit the elevator, you are greeted by wall-sized images of fashionable male and female models walking down the cat walk and elegant chandeliers – a foretaste of what to expect.

The Cocoon Club, formally known as Club Thirty-One, is divided into the West and East wing, each playing different styles of music – just to cater for everyone’s taste – with electronic beats coming from the East side and commercial and hip hop music playing in the West wing. The usual crowd parting at the Cocoon Club is between 20 and 30 years old, but the young at heart also enjoy coming here.

What both sides have in common are magnificent, unsurpassed views of Table Mountain, the harbour and the city thanks to the panorama windows around the entire club. You get to enjoy the night glow of the city, while moving your hips on the dance floor or sipping a cocktail in one of the comfortable seats – a truly remarkable experience.

Both sides also offer bar facilities with a great selection of long drinks, cocktails and Champagne by the bottle, which you can indulge in while sitting on the lavish lounge sofas. The interior is kept in an elegant dark colour and fitted with sophisticated contemporary finishes. Top-notch sound and lighting equipment will make your night out a night to remember.

No smoking is permitted in the club, but don’t worry, they got you covered. The smokers’ lounge is just as cosy and stylish (yes, those two words can go together) as the rest of the club and offers amazing views, too.

The Cocoon Club is open every Friday and Saturday night from 10 pm to 4 am and the party starts getting hot around 1 am. Varying DJ’s will keep you dancing on “Cultivate Your Curiosity Fridays” or “Enhance Saturdays”. But the Cocoon Club also offers other events such Arthouse movie nights on First Thursdays.

Cover charge is R200 for men and R100 for women. However, if you book a table, cover charge is included and there is only a minimum tab of R3500 per table. These tables can be booked at the entrance; there is no hassle with pre-bookings.  The dress code is smart, of course.

If you are looking for a fun night out in style with your friends, the Cocoon Club offers you everything your heart desires plus views no one else can rival.
