Divas Unite celebrating Women's Day in South Africa

The Divas Unite concert organised by Opulent Living on 9 August in Cape Town’s stunning city hall proved once again that the human voice is the most beautiful instrument of all. The concert in honour of Women’s Day 2015 featured South African divas like opera singers Magdalene Minaar, Noluvuyiso Mpofu and Zanne Stapelberg, the mother-and-daughter-duo Judy Page and Kim Kallie as well as Zolani Mahola from the band Freshlyground and the three-woman group Sterling EQ.

The two-and-a-half-hour concert was presented by the charming and funny Katlego Maboe, while the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra provided the perfect musical background for the beautiful voices of the stars. In the first half musical songs like “I feel pretty” and “New York, New York”, opera songs such as “Sempre Libera” and “Ah, je ris de me voir” as well as popular hits like “I’d like” and “Cry me a river” enchanted the audience and not many eyes remained dry listening to the touching tunes and mesmerising voices.

During the interval, visitors were treated to delicious cupcakes and pizza sponsored by Butler’s as well as a glass or two of finest bubbly by Pongrácz celebrating their 25 years of being South Africa’s Number One Methode Cap Classique.

The second half started dramatically with “Phantom of the Opera” featuring the singing doctor Darren Green and ended with everyone dancing to the tunes of songs like “Pata Pata”, “It don’t mean a thing”, “We are the world” and “Feel our hearts, feel our minds” featuring the Sing The Change choir. And seeing the instrumental pop group Sterling EQ perform with their unusual looking instruments and hot outfits is a feast for ears and eyes. They truly understand to combine classical instruments and pop music.

Further sponsors of this fantastic event included Infinity Luxury Cars and Frey Chocolate welcoming visitors with chocolates and other goodies. The concert also served as a fundraiser for Project Flamingo, assisting victims of breast cancer with timely and holistic treatment.

All in all, this concert was a perfect afternoon with incredibly beautiful voices and enchanting music, plus being spoilt with yummy food and bubbly. We are very much looking forward to next year’s event.
