PURE GIN hosted by Asara’s Sansibar Gin Lounge

The festive season is here, and I am ready to tap out. It has been a very busy year with lots of ups and downs and I am very much looking forward to putting my feet up in order to do nothing or at least as little as possible. So, the invite to visit the absolutely stunning Asara Wine Estate & Hotel to celebrate all things GIN at their Pure Gin festival came at the right time.

And btw: I LOVE GIN!!!

I packed my bag, picked an awesome friend – who turned out to be a close friend of the owner – and off we went to visit the Estate. I don’t know about you, but I always feel that the Cape Winelands particularly shine when it comes to South Africa. The moment you park your car you, the dry heat of the vineyards hits your face and rustles your summer dress, you walk into the Estate and it looks flawless, worries seem to disappear, and you are greeted by friendly staff and visitors alike. This is what you should picture if you are looking forward to a visit at Asara.

Happy that it was Saturday, we were welcomed by Sipokazi from www.yeyllowdoorcollective.com. She graciously had invited us to enjoy a lovely picnic basket and some delicious gin. We collected our goodies and sat down for a wonderful meal overlooking the vineyards. They had catered for every need and you were able to pick a meat, fish or veggie picnic basket including two G&T’s of your choice and a glass for R 375. Additional G&T’s were sold at R 50, which is quite affordable. The basket could feed easily two people. Bread & rolls could be picked before sitting down. We were also gifted the cutest little filled Christmas bauble from Southern Cross Gin that now decorates my Christmas tree (you can buy them for friends and family as a very cool gift). I had the option to try their gin first hand and it is quite delicious. Give it a go with some dry lemon and you might surprise yourself with a beautiful summer drink.

In general, we had the option to try from the following gin exhibitor’s:

Barker and Quin provided their finest Indian Tonic Water that cannot be missed if you are looking for a great G&T and off course there was also plenty of the Asara’s very own wine, which I did not had a chance to try on this occasion (guess who has to go for another visit soon? 😊).

I only had a chance to try Ginologist and Southern Cross Gin. Both I can vouch for and have been delicious. So definitely give them a try!

Have we got you excited about a refreshing G&T during the festive period? Well than visit the Asara estate and their Sansibar Gin Lounge during your holidays or even better join them for Christmas’s lunch, which you can book with Heidi at heidi@asara.co.za or call 021 888 8000.
