Giancarlo (affectionately known to friends as Balky) was born in Eritrea, a country in the Horn of Africa bordered by Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti.  As a young boy,  his family returned to northern Italy and Balky had his first taste of authentic, rustic Italian cuisine.   His fondest memories were rolling out fresh pasta sheets and stacking lasagna with his Grandmother.

In November 2013, Balky opened Giancarlo’s Italian Deli to share his passion for Italian and South African flavours using fresh, local ingredients!

We will start with a Parmigiana cooking demonstration with Balky, followed by Italian platters to taste a mix of his best dishes!

ITALIAN SOCIAL MENU

{ Starter Platter }
Aubergine and butternut crisps
Pizza
Toasted polenta with ricotta cheese, cherry tomatoes
Grissini Bread sticks
Rosemary and olive oil crackers
Olives & Anchovies
Cured meat board (prosciutto, salame milano, coppa, chorizo, saucisson, biltong)

{ Main Course }
Homebaked beef lasagne
Aubergine Parmigiana
Giancarlo’s salad (courgette, rocket salad, cherry tomatoes, prosciutto and mozzarella)
Ricotta salad (courgette, rocket salad, cherry tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, olives and ricotta cheese)

{Dessert }
Giancarlo’s Tiramisu served with a taste of grappa or limoncello! 

** Prosecco will be available on the night @ R20 per glass.
** Blaky has created two “All-in-One” baskets, grab them and cook up an Italian feast at home!
